In 2016, Copenhagen pump was challenged to adapt a positive flowmeter technology for one of the world's most comprehensive medical validation programs. At first the task seemed almost impossible, but after 18 months of hard work, a solution seemed to take shape.
The Lutz Flow oval wheel flowmeter with volume control is highly valued by the surgical staff for a specific task and it was imperative that this particular solution could be continued in a new validation context. We therefore took a deep dive into the design of the meter and changed non-validatable design parts/principles point by point. It was a really big job that required the efforts of all parties, right down to the subcontractors' subcontractors.
Pre-selection directly on the meter, meter accuracy, built-in relay for control and calibration, and a validated process made it extremely attractive to take the solution to new tasks. Today, the flow meter is in operation at several sites, with more than 2 years of operation without intervention.
