In 2015, Copenhagen Pump was contacted by a consulting engineering company with a very exciting task to manufacture Medico related equipment.
The task was extremely complex. A mixture of methanol and concentrated sulfuric acid had to be pumped around and flow split. Varying differential pressure and a cooling process to -50 C.
Due to the hazardous nature of the medium, the choice fell on frequency-controlled ATEX approved magnetic drive pumps from Green Pump in PVDF. During the process, we had to specially manufacture bearing parts due to the molecular size of the fluid.
At such low temperatures, all materials are stressed to the maximum and incorrect operation of the system is punished immediately, resulting in a breakdown. Fortunately, the collaboration between consultants, end user, pump manufacturer, material suppliers and parallel suppliers was world-class. As a result, the product was successfully adapted during and after delivery based on the data obtained.
Image shows pumps in the installation with nitrogen overlay connection of the magnetic coupling. This is done to prevent precipitation of condensed ice.
The project has had a single intervention after commissioning but has otherwise run without remarks.
