In 2015, Copenhagen Pump was contacted in connection with a 1-year delivery inspection of a major belt filter project. The originally designed single auger pumps simply could not keep up and as a result were quickly wearing out. They were, of course, an untenable situation. After a thorough review of the project, it was decided, in consultation with the machine builder and customer, to supply an Allweiler RG solids handling pump, which is designed for pumping sludge with a high solids content (up to 35%). The pump is special in that it has a secondary geared double auger which constantly keeps pressure on the dewatered solids up against the pump suction chamber. The special construction ensures that the pump does not underfill. This results in high volumetric efficiency, less friction and thus longer mechanical life. The change in technology meant that the lifetime of the stator/rotor increased by a factor of 10.
