In practice, the different technologies do not compete with each other, but take over or complement each other in different pressure and capacity ranges.
The GEV vane pump is strong in low pressure and low capacity, while the GEV side channel blower is used for relatively high flows and moderate negative pressure, i.e. from 600 mbar absolute.
The side channel blower is also an excellent overpressure pump for moderate overpressures up to approx. 0.4 bar o.
The liquid ring pump is a more complex machine with an auxiliary system for the liquid ring. Atlas Copco LRP and GEV produce complete systems for vacuum down to 0.050 bar/50 mbar.
Pedro Gil canister blowers build machines for aeration and pneumatic transportation.
The Pedro Gil Capsule blower is a lobe profile compressor/pump. The necessary tolerances in the machine do not allow more than a differential pressure of 1.8 bar 1800 mbar. In practice, this means that you can create an overpressure of about 0.8 bar and an absolute underpressure of about 0.2 bar/200 mbar.
At Copenhagen Pump, we carry several types of vacuum pumps. GEV rotary vane and side channel impeller vacuum pumps, Atlas Copco LRP and other liquid ring pumps as well as Pedro Gil rotary lobe blowers and turbo blowers.
The table below provides a rough overview of the possible applications.

The purpose of using GEV vacuum pumps in connection with vacuum technology for industrial use is typically for transporting dry materials such as sand, powder and other granulates, for vacuum evaporation of e.g. food and for vacuum packaging.
Gas types: most commonly, ordinary air is transported with GEV vacuum pumps, but also water vapor in evaporation plants or biogas in biogas production.
Alcohol reduced beer, fresh water generators, evaporation plants for the food, bio-tech and phama industry, vacuum transport of solids such as sand, powder and granules, biogas production.
For certain tasks, there is an objective Atex requirement for the vacuum pump, such requirements for vacuum pumps are seen in biogas production, for example. GEV vacuum rotary vane pumps and side channel impeller pumps are therefore offered as standard in Atex design.
Durability: the machines are usually designed to work around the clock. I.e. 8,000 hours of operation/year with derived programmed maintenance.
